Signs for Library ReOpening

FV has been closed since November of 2016 for remodeling
and just had their grand reopening on August 2, 2017.
Staff Association for the library system provides
cake or cupcakes to the staff for the celebration.

I decided that a sign and banner were needed to
let the staff know where the treats came from.

A better view of the sign.

I grabbed the free ballon clip art from the internet
and used a variety of fonts to give the text some extra interest.
It is of course printed on a dictionary page.

The banner for the celebration

Here is a close up of some of the letters.

Princess Silhouettes

I have been working on some Princess Silhouettes.
I hope you enjoy them.

These pages are from a 1960 Funk & Wagnalls Standard Dictionary so they are not as golden as the other pages I have been using.

I do like the crisp freshness of the page with the princess silhouettes.

Clutter Busting

I am in the process of cleaning out some of the clutter in my basement. It was just getting so full. Of course that is where I keep all of my craft supplies and it is a bit overwhelming. Especially during craft fair season. I will set up tables to craft on and get everything all spread out and I like to leave it all out to pick up where I left off the next day.

BUT! When it is time for a craft fair I have to get everything off of the tables to use at the show.

SO! stuff just gets swept into the nearest container and stashed away. Not the best organizational system.

The article linked above provides a unique perspective to decluttering. The rest of the blog has other useful information to browse.

I think her method makes a great deal of sense, but as I do not have an area large enough to do this in considering all the items I have in my basement; I am doing the bit by bit method of judging the items and trashing, donating or reorganizing what I want to keep.

It's Slooooow going.

What I'm Reading Now

Well, I'm not actually reading it, I am listening to the audio book in my car. I do love a good Archaeology adventure and the Fargos never fail to provide just that. This time the adventure starts out in the search for an old book that Remi whats to give to Sam. As luck would have it the store gets robbed when Remi is there looking for the book and as the title infers a search for pirate treasure begins that sends our jet setting couple around the globe while trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys.

Buffy meets Book Pages

I have some new dictionary pages to share with you.
I have been re-exploring my love of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
After all there is a Cool Librarian, an awesome Slayer who kicks butt, some unending comic wit and wisdom, and of course I have to mention all of the hot eye candy.

I'll share some more soon.
In the meantime I hope you enjoy these.

Steampunk Angels

Today I was working on some more book page illustrations.
They are lovely automatons.
A machine with the soul of a beautiful woman.

Have gun will travel?
If only she had legs! A stationary beauty.

Beauty takes wing.
The sadness of the soul propels her to flight.

In her I see the soul of Edward Scissorhands.
The knowledge that you are not quite like everyone else but the deep unending need to be every bit as perfectly normal as everyone around you.

I hope you enjoy them.

Steampunk Book Pages

Here are some Steampunk inspired images printed onto vintage dictionary pages. I love the color of the balloon against the golden patina of the book page.

Doesn't the blue shadow look like he just let go some ink?

Sneak Peak

Hello All,

Just wanted to share a sneak peak of some things I am working on to be debuted at the Fall Craft Fairs.

I am printing on vintage dictionary pages. I will have vintage etchings, full color vintage prints and quotes.

What is your quote?

To get this product off the ground
I will be giving away a printed quote.

Just leave your favorite quote in the comments and I will randomly select a winner. The lucky winner will get their quote turned into a custom BookIt Dictionary page quote.

Something New and Something Old

Just wanted to share one of the books that I will be reading in the near future. YEAH!

WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT HARPER-COLLINS HAS NOW ACCEPTED A FINISHED VERSION OF “THE PAINTED QUEEN” – a manuscript partially written by Elizabeth Peters and finished by her dear friend, mystery writer Joan Hess, with help from another dear friend, Egyptologist Salima Ikram. The book goes back to fill us in about the Emersons’ activities during the excavation season when the famed Nefertiti bust was discovered. The projected publication date is July 2017!

So that was the new and now this is the old. I found some lovely illustrations that fit nicely with this book. They are fashion plates from 1912-1913 the time period in which the book is set. I can totally picture Amelia and Nefret wearing these lovely dresses.

My goal is now to go back and reRead the series in order of the Archaeological Season in which the story takes place.

Crocodile on the Sandbank 1884-85
The Curse of the Pharaohs 1892-93
The Mummy Case 1894-95
The Lion in the Valley 1895-96
Deeds of the Disturber 1896
The Last Camel Died at Noon 1897-98
The Snake, the Crocodile and the Dog 1898-99
The Hippopotamus Pool 1899-1900
Seeing a Large Cat 1903-04
The Ape Who Guards the Balance 1906-07
Guardian of the Horizon 1907-08
A River in the Sky 1910
The Falcon at the Portal 1911-12
The Painted Queen 1912-13
He Shall Thunder in the Sky 1914-15
Lord of the Silent 1915-16
The Golden One 1916-17
Children of the Storm 1919-20
The Serpent on the Crown 1922-23
The Tomb of the Golden Bird 1922-23

If you like a good mystery set in a lovely historic time and exotic location then I hope you will check out the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters.

Classic Banana Republic

I am totally in love with classic Banana Republic Catalogs. Everything in them is just so my style.

This is perfect, my new favorite thing is houndstooth. I have started making a line of scarves that I call the Ascot Scarf.  My photo-type has tan and black houndstooth wool on one side and black velvet on the other. It has very clean and classic lines, is reversible and looks great dressed up with your favorite vintage pin.

I'll get some pictures posted as soon as I can get a photo shoot set up. Coordinating time with my models is not always easy.

Valley of Flowers

Hello All!
Just wanted to share some pictures for The Florissant Valley of Flowers Craft Fair.
